Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) sits minutes from the centre, with frequent flights from Bangkok (about 75 minutes) and other cities. From Pattaya, fly via Bangkok; the overnight train from Bangkok is a scenic alternative.

Getting around

The compact Old City is walkable. Songthaews (red shared trucks), Grab and scooter rental cover the rest. The mountain sights (Doi Suthep) are an easy songthaew or tour.
