Where to stay
Chaweng is the main concentration of hotels, dining and nightlife. Lamai provides a different beach base, while Bophut, Maenam and the north and south coasts change the balance between access, quiet and evening activity. Pick the coast for the trip you want rather than treating the island as one uniform resort area.

TAT identifies Chaweng, Lamai and Taling Ngam among the island’s beaches and lists cooking, yoga, Muay Thai, scuba diving and golf as activities. Wat Plai Laem is a separate temple visit, while Ang Thong is a marine-park day trip whose access and sea conditions need checking with the boat operator. Na Muang waterfalls and the Koh Phangan or Koh Tao connections are separate itinerary choices, not a single bundled excursion.
Getting there from Pattaya
Samui is far south of Pattaya in the Gulf. Samui Airport is on the island and has official airport and airline information, while the mainland alternative requires a Surat Thani transfer and ferry. Compare the whole route—flight, pier, boat and hotel transfer—because a lower airfare does not necessarily mean a shorter arrival.
Best time to visit
The seasonal signal is not a simple December-to-April rule. Surat Thani provincial information identifies October to January as the province’s rainy period, while beach and marine-park conditions can vary within that window. Check the forecast, sea state and any attraction notices close to travel; the old dry-season shorthand should not be used as a guarantee.
Food & nightlife
Food and evenings vary by coast: Chaweng concentrates more dining and nightlife, while Bophut and the quieter beaches suit a different pace. TAT’s activity list supports a broader island day than beach bars alone, but it does not establish current opening hours or prices for individual venues.
Day trips
Ang Thong National Marine Park is the clearest source-backed day-trip example from Samui. Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are separate island connections with their own boats and sea conditions. Confirm departure pier, return time, weather policy and whether the ticket includes transfers before booking.
