Krabi, on the Andaman coast, is famous for its towering limestone karsts, emerald water and beaches you reach by longtail boat. It is quieter and more nature-focused than Phuket, and a launch point for some of Thailand’s most beautiful islands.
Where to stay
Ao Nang is the main beach town — convenient, with hotels, restaurants and boat piers. Railay, reachable only by boat, is a stunning cliff-ringed peninsula beloved by rock climbers. Krabi Town is the local, budget-friendly hub. Koh Lanta to the south is a long, laid-back island.
Top things to do
Longtail-boat island-hopping (the Four Islands, Hong Islands, Phi Phi), rock climbing at Railay, kayaking through mangroves and lagoons, the Tiger Cave Temple climb, and the Emerald Pool and hot springs inland.
Getting there from Pattaya
Krabi is across the country, best reached by a short flight (via Bangkok) to Krabi airport. Overland is very long, so plan an overnight-or-longer trip.
Best time to visit
The dry season (roughly November to April) brings the calmest seas and best island weather. The monsoon (May to October) is cheaper and lush but wetter.
Food & nightlife
Fresh Andaman seafood and southern-Thai cooking, with a relaxed bar scene in Ao Nang. Nightlife is mellow compared with Phuket or Pattaya.

The Phi Phi Islands, the Four Islands tour, Hong Islands and Koh Lanta are the headline boat trips.
