About
Ask a Pattaya taxi driver where to eat Thai food at 2am and there’s a fair chance you’ll end up at Daeng Dam (แดงดำ — “red and black”, spelled Dang Dum on half the signs and websites that mention it). This sprawling, fluorescent-lit restaurant on Central Pattaya Road has been serving the city around the clock for decades, and its clientele — Thai families, market workers, cabbies, plus a steady trickle of expats who’ve been let in on it — is its best review.
The format is pure Thai food-hall: a long menu, a dedicated made-to-order noodle cart, fast service on plastic-topped tables, and prices set for locals rather than tourists. Nobody has ever gone for the ambience.
Menu highlights & prices
The menu runs to dozens of dishes; these are the ones the place is known for:
- Pad thai with giant prawn — the signature order and the dish reviewers travel for; regular pad thai variations fill out the card.
- Rad na and pad see ew — from the made-to-order noodle station, everything wok-fresh rather than pre-cooked.
- Fried seabass — with spicy chilli sauce or sweet-and-sour, reported at roughly ฿90–130 in recent reviews; absurd value for a whole-fish plate.
- Tom yum, stir-fries and rice plates — the full everyday Thai repertoire.
- Jok (rice porridge) — the traditional deep-night offering when the main kitchen winds down.
Price range across the menu runs from loose change up to about ฿300 for the biggest prawn and fish dishes — most plates land well under ฿200. Portions are honest and service is famously fast. Menus and prices change; figures here are approximate from recent listings and reviews.
Hours
Open 24 hours. The one nuance: from around 23:00 the kitchen traditionally narrows toward jok (rice porridge) and simpler dishes, so the full menu is a daytime-and-evening proposition. For the famous noodle dishes, go before late evening.
Location & getting there
Daeng Dam is on Central Pattaya Road (Pattaya Klang) in Nong Prue, on the strip toward the Third Road end:
- By baht bus: any songthaew running Central Pattaya Road passes the restaurant — watch the north side of the road.
- From Soi Buakhao: it’s a short walk or ride north to Pattaya Klang, then east or west along the strip to the pin.
- By Grab/Bolt: search “Dang Dum Pattaya” — the phone number 038-426-090 also still answers.
One disambiguation worth repeating: this is not DAM Pattaya, the separate beachfront restaurant on Krating Lai Beach in Naklua. Same syllable, completely different restaurant.
Good to know
First-timer notes. The menu has English (and Korean — the restaurant is a fixture in Korean guidebooks, hence the Korean signage), but ordering works best by pointing at the noodle cart or at what the next table is having; the staff are fast and unbothered by pantomime. Spice defaults to Thai levels — say “pet nit noi” (a little spicy) if you’re cautious. The room is open and fan-cooled rather than air-conditioned, so lunchtime visits run warm; evenings are the comfortable window and also when the people-watching — an authentic cross-section of working Pattaya — is best. Prices this low mean cash, small notes ideally. Parking exists in front but Pattaya Klang traffic makes a baht bus or bike the easier arrival. And manage expectations calibrated by decades of regulars: you’re here for the noodle station and the fish, not for dessert menus or ambience.
Before you go
This is the Central Pattaya Road Thai restaurant, distinct from DAM Pattaya on Krating Lai Beach in Naklua. Confirm the current kitchen hours and whether the full menu is available before a late visit.

Full overview
Daeng Dam (แดงดำ, 'red and black' — often romanised Dang Dum) is a Pattaya Klang institution: a big, unfussy Thai restaurant on Central Pattaya Road that has fed locals, night-shift workers and clued-in expats around the clock for decades. This is the real everyday Thai cooking that tourist-strip menus imitate — made-to-order pad thai (the giant-prawn version is the famous order), rad na and pad see ew from a dedicated noodle station, fried seabass with chilli sauce or sweet-and-sour at prices that read like typos (roughly ฿90–130 in recent reviews), tom yum, stir-fries and late-night rice porridge. Almost everything on the long menu lands between pocket change and about ฿300 for the big fish and prawn plates. It's open 24 hours, with the kitchen narrowing to porridge and simpler dishes deep in the night. The room is a classic Thai food-hall: strip lighting, fast plastic-table service, zero atmosphere engineering — and that's the charm. Reviews are warmly loyal, with the honest caveat that some long-time regulars feel a few dishes have slipped from their peak. Don't confuse it with DAM Pattaya, the separate Krating Lai beachfront restaurant — different place entirely.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a Daeng Dam menu online?
No official website — but menu photos and dish lists appear on Restaurant Guru, SoiDB and the restaurant's Facebook page. Expect a long card of noodle dishes, stir-fries, soups, whole fish and rice plates. Prices change, so treat online photos as approximate.
How much does eating at Daeng Dam cost?
It's one of the cheapest proper restaurants in central Pattaya: recent reviews put fried seabass with chilli or sweet-and-sour sauce at roughly ฿90–130, and most dishes run from a few tens of baht up to about ฿300 for large prawn and fish plates.
Where is Daeng Dam Restaurant?
On Central Pattaya Road (Pattaya Klang) in Nong Prue, toward the Third Road end of the strip — use the map link on this page. Any baht bus running Pattaya Klang passes it.
Is Daeng Dam still open?
Yes — as of mid-2026 it holds active listings on TripAdvisor, Restaurant Guru and Thai directories, and it remains a 24-hour operation. Note that late at night the kitchen traditionally serves a reduced menu centred on rice porridge.
Is Daeng Dam the same as DAM Pattaya?
No. Daeng Dam (Dang Dum) is the Thai restaurant on Central Pattaya Road. DAM Pattaya is a separate beachfront restaurant on Krating Lai Beach; its former dampattaya.com domain did not resolve when checked on 23 August 2026. Searches for 'Dam restaurant Pattaya' can mean either.
