Lungsawai Seafood

Lungsawai Seafood (ลุงสวาย, 'Uncle Sawai') is a big, long-running local seafood restaurant on the water at the far southern end of the Jomtien Beach Road strip, in Na Jomtien. It has been going for around three decades, and it's the sort of place Thai families and in-the-know expats drive out to rather than a tourist-trail stop: a large, breezy, semi open-air operation right beside the Gulf, with live tanks near the entrance where you pick your fish, prawns, crab, squid or shellfish and choose how you want them cooked. The cooking is classic Thai seafood done well and at fair prices — grilled prawns, whole steamed or fried fish with lime or garlic, tom yum goong, curried crab, spicy seafood salads and plenty of som tam — with the sea breeze and the smell of the charcoal grill doing as much for the atmosphere as anything on the plate. It's spacious with lots of free parking, service is quick and unfussy, and prices are reasonable for the quality: the big-ticket seafood is priced by weight, but a shared spread here generally works out well below hotel-restaurant rates. English isn't guaranteed among the staff, but there are picture-friendly displays and pointing works fine. Being at the southern end of Na Jomtien, it's a drive from central Pattaya — a Grab or your own transport is the easy way — but for fresh, honest, waterside seafood among locals, that trip is exactly the point.
