Signed variously as Kohinoor Indian Food and Kohinoor Indian Restaurant — and cheerfully self-billed as “the oldest and best Indian restaurant in Pattaya” — it has been serving North Indian food near Walking Street for more than two decades. What to order

The cooking is classic North Indian, done consistently well. The tandoor turns out chicken tikka and tandoori chicken, and there’s a well-liked tandoori salmon for something a little different. Curries run the familiar, comforting gamut — butter chicken, dal makhani and the rest — and there’s a biryani worth ordering. Vegetarians are properly looked after, with a wide veg selection and all the breads (naan, roti and friends) you need to scoop everything up. Finish with a sweet gulab jamun.

The value is a big part of the appeal: an all-inclusive thali lands around 240 baht, letting you try several dishes without overspending, and prices generally undercut the more touristy strips nearby. It’s the sort of honest, filling, well-priced Indian meal that keeps regulars coming back.

Kohinoor’s reviews are largely very good — a four-of-five average on Tripadvisor and a high Restaurant Guru score across hundreds of reviews — and the praise centres on authentic flavours, generous portions and friendly, helpful staff. It’s fair, though, to flag the recurring minor gripe: a minority of diners mention pushy touting out front (common on this nightlife strip) or the occasional bit of inconsistent service. None of that dents the food, but it’s worth knowing so you can breeze past the tout and judge the meal on its merits.
