Koh Larn day trip from Pattaya

Take the public ferry from Bali Hai Pier A to Na Baan or Tawaen on Koh Larn. The operator lists 40 baht a person each way, with the last scheduled boats back at 17:00 from Tawaen and 18:00 from Na Baan, checked 2 November 2026. Choose your beach before you choose the pier, and check the sailings and the sea on the day: a timetable does not promise that a boat runs.

The public ferry from Bali Hai

The public ferry is run by the Pattaya–Koh Larn Passenger Boat Club. It leaves from Bali Hai Pier A in Pattaya and lands at two piers on the island: Na Baan, the main island pier, and Tawaen beach. The fare in the operator's notice is 40 baht a person each way, the same for children and adults, so a return for one person is 80 baht. The scheduled departures are in the table at the top of this page.

The ticket counter at Bali Hai opens 08:00–15:30. The notice marks the 07:00, 08:00, 17:00 and 18:30 departures from Bali Hai for payment on board, and sells the other boats in short windows before each sailing:

11:00 to Tawaen10:01–10:40
13:00 to Tawaen12:01–12:40

The notice does not agree with itself in two places, and we show both readings rather than choose one. Its general wording says sales close 20 minutes before each sailing, but its table closes sales for the 15:30 boat to Na Baan at 15:00. For the 09:00 boat to Tawaen, the English text opens sales at 08:00 and the Thai text at 08:01. Arrive early and ask at the counter.

There are no advance reservations. A ticket for a boat you miss is not refunded and cannot be used on a later boat; if the counter has closed but the boat has not left, you can pay at the boat. Ennkai, a resort on the island, estimates the crossing at 40–50 minutes. A government directory record for Tawaen still gives a 30-baht fare and an hourly service: that older text is not the current operator timetable.

The timetable is a schedule, not a promise. We found no source that confirms the day's actual sailings, cancellations or capacity, so ask at the pier, and keep a margin before the last boat.

A speedboat price is the seller's own offer, not an island tariff: ask whether it is per person or per boat, what is included and when the boat comes back for you. We found no confirmed boat back to Pattaya after the last public ferry, so do not plan a day that depends on one.

The seven beaches compared

Koh Larn is small, but its beaches differ in how you reach them and what is there. The descriptions below come from the Thai government's tourism directory where it has a record, and otherwise from a resort or a travel guide, as named. They are descriptions, not inspections.

For every beach, we could not confirm current public toilets and showers, their prices, opening hours, lifeguards, safe tide times or water quality. Tiennara's beach equipment is for its own guests: it is not a public service.

Getting around the island

Shared island taxis (songthaews) leave from Na Baan, the main pier; Tiennara names them as the way to Tien. We found no official fare board for the island routes, so agree the price and the pick-up time for your return before you set off. We could not confirm that Grab or Bolt can be booked on the island.

Some resorts rent motorbikes. Baan Rinrak Resort lists one at 300 baht a day with a full tank, charged separately from the room. Room Koh Larn includes one bike in its room package, but rents it only to its own guests with a licence, bans subletting, and holds the guest liable for damage. A helmet is required by law on a motorbike in Thailand. For the licence and the risks, read renting a scooter or car in Pattaya.

Resort guests can often skip the taxi: Baan Rinrak lists a free golf-cart pick-up at Na Baan, and Ennkai a golf-cart shuttle you request a day ahead.

A one-beach day, step by step

  1. Choose the pier from the beach. For a simple beach day, take the direct boat to Tawaen. For Samae, Tien, Nual or the north, take the boat to Na Baan and a shared island taxi from there.
  2. Keep to one main beach. The ride and the last walk vary, and there is no fixed fare to plan around.
  3. Eat near that beach. At Tien, Tiennara's restaurant serves lunch 12:00–15:00; at Tawaen, the government record describes seafood restaurants and shops along the beach.
  4. Plan your return around the last boat. Aim for a ferry well before 17:00 from Tawaen or 18:00 from Na Baan, with time for the ride to the pier and the queue.
  5. Stay the night for sunset or dinner. Tiennara's dinner starts at 18:00, after the last boat leaves Tawaen. Book a room or a confirmed return boat; never count on a boat after dark.

Two ferry fares come to 80 baht. We found no verified prices for island taxis, meals or showers, so we give no total for the day.

Snorkelling, water sports and tour prices

Tours from Pattaya bundle the speedboat, an hour of snorkelling, lunch and optional water sports. These are each seller's own published prices, checked 2 November 2026, not an island tariff:

Good Trips Thailand counts children under 2 or below 99 cm as free without a seat, ages 3–12 and 101–140 cm as children, and anyone over 140 cm as an adult. Trip Thai Tour refunds in full more than 7 days ahead, 50% from 7 days to 48 hours and nothing later, with notice in writing before 20:00 Thai time the day before; if it cancels for weather or low numbers, it offers a refund or a new date. The sellers do not publish one set of medical, age or weight rules for sea walking or parasailing: ask before you pay. Private Scuba names Laem Tong (The Rings), Monkey Beach, South Point and Saxophone Bay among the dive areas around the island; see scuba diving and snorkelling and watersports in Pattaya.

Staying the night

An overnight stay gives you the evening, which the public ferry does not. Room Koh Larn lists its Standard room from 1,450 baht a night (Sunday to Friday) and 1,600 baht on Saturdays, for two, with breakfast for two, one motorbike and pick-up at Na Baan. Check-in is 14:00 and check-out 11:00; it does not take children under 7, and an extra guest costs 500 baht. Baan Rinrak Resort offers sea-facing and other rooms with a pick-up at Na Baan; we could not match its rates to its rooms. We found no current room rates for Tiennara or Ennkai.

Rimtalay Resort's website shows an under-construction notice. The Tourism Authority of Thailand lists Indigo Cafe with Rimtalay, but the notice is not evidence that either has closed; ask before you plan around them. For sunset, Tiennara names the windmill viewpoint, and the government record for Samae describes a viewing pavilion there; we could not confirm access, steps, fees or opening hours for either.

Sea, weather and safety

Read the Thai Meteorological Department's shipping forecast on the morning you go: check its issue time, then the wind, the wave height and any thunderstorm advice for the Upper Gulf. The Tourism Authority of Thailand calls November to February Thailand's cooler season, but no month guarantees a calm crossing or clear water.

  • UK travel advice names overloading, poor maintenance and rough seas as causes of serious boat accidents in Thailand. If a boat looks full or the sea looks rough, wait for the next one.
  • Lifeguards, safe swimming areas and the distance to keep from coral are unconfirmed at all seven beaches. At Nual, rocks can cut swimmers.
  • In an emergency, call 191 for the police, 1669 for a medical emergency or 1155 for the Tourist Police.

Fees and what is still unknown

The government tourism directory records no admission charge for Tawaen, Samae, Tien or Nual. That does not settle whether there is an island-wide visitor fee: Pattaya Mail reported in 2018 that the city was considering one, and we found no current notice either way. Treat it as unconfirmed.

Also unconfirmed: the day's actual ferry sailings, any boat after the last ferry, island taxi fares, Grab or Bolt on the island, public showers and toilets, and a typical price for a meal. For other days out by boat and by road, see day trips from Pattaya.

Questions

What time is the last ferry back from Koh Larn?

The last scheduled boats leave Tawaen at 17:00 and Na Baan at 18:00. The timetable does not guarantee that a boat sails, and we found no confirmed boat after the last ferry, so plan to leave earlier.
