First, the closure warning

Bonkai Resort is not a live recommendation. Google marks the South Pattaya property temporarily closed, and no dependable operator announcement gives a reopening date. Booking platforms still display room descriptions, policies and photographs, but those pages can preserve old inventory long after a front desk stops taking guests. Do not mistake an active hotel page for proof that a room will be ready.

That distinction matters here because the resort once offered an unusually complete budget setup. It had 39 rooms over three floors, a large outdoor pool, a children’s pool, a pool bar, a restaurant, parking and room categories substantially larger than the usual Central Pattaya guesthouse. Legacy room listings can still look bookable online. They explain the former offer, not the property’s present condition.

Google’s profile shows 4.3/5 across 1,346 reviews (July 2026). The number reflects years of guest experience before the present closure and should not be compared directly with scores for hotels accepting guests tonight. HotelsCombined displays 7.1/10 from 400 verified ratings, while Agoda’s historical sub-scores were strongest for value and staff and weaker for facilities. Different platforms use different scales and review sets; none settles whether the pool, rooms or services are presently maintained.

If an online agent appears to accept dates, take three precautions. Choose free cancellation, avoid a bank transfer to an unverified contact, and ask the property to confirm the reservation in writing before the refund window closes. A reopened hotel should be able to state the operating reception hours, working facilities and exact room category. Silence or a generic platform confirmation is not enough while the map flag remains.

The rooms and pool guests used to book

No current rate is defensible, but Agoda’s archived inventory still explains the former room choices. Budget Double and Basic Room categories are listed at 34 m². The Basic option explicitly appeared without cleaning service, a reminder to read the inclusions rather than assuming all categories receive daily housekeeping. A Superior Balcony is listed at 36 m² with a pool view. Pool Side and one-bedroom pool-view or pool-access suites reach 72 m², providing a meaningful jump in living space.

The 72 m² categories were the compelling reason to consider the property. They put guests close to the water and offered apartment-like space at what was historically a budget price. The trade-off was age. Agoda says the hotel opened in 2009 and was last renovated in 2011, so even before closure the actual condition depended on upkeep rather than new construction. Historical reviews praised large rooms and the pool, while complaints included cleaning and maintenance lapses.

Facilities listed across booking sites included free Wi-Fi, free parking, air-conditioning, room service, laundry, safes, express check-in and an airport transfer. Expedia described an outdoor pool and children’s pool open from 09:00 to 21:00, plus loungers and umbrellas. It also noted that guests in Budget rooms could be charged a facility fee for pool access. Every one of those details needs reconfirmation after a reopening; a surviving amenity list cannot prove that pumps, kitchens or transfers are operating.

Historical check-in ran from 14:00 to 22:00, with check-out by noon and no after-hours arrival. Children were accepted, pets and service animals were not, and cribs or rollaway beds were unavailable according to Expedia. These rules help explain the old guest experience but should not be used to plan a future arrival until the hotel republishes them.

Room names also carried materially different inclusions. A cheap Basic rate was not equivalent to a pool-access suite merely because both appeared under the same property name. If bookings resume, compare cleaning, pool access, bed type and balcony or ground-floor position line by line; the category label alone will not settle the value. Ask for current photographs of the assigned category as well, especially after a long closure in a humid coastal climate.

Accessibility needs the same direct check. The old inventory spread rooms over three floors but did not establish a lift, step-free pool route or accessible bathroom. Guests who cannot use stairs should obtain a specific ground-floor-room confirmation rather than relying on a generic accessibility filter from a booking site.

The address is 154/50-51 Soi Bonkai 2 in South Pattaya. It is a residential lane between the Third Road side and Pratumnak, quieter than Walking Street but not beachfront. Hotels.com puts Walking Street at about a 19-minute walk and Soi Buakhao at roughly 20 minutes. In heat or rain, most visitors would use a motorbike taxi or app ride. Free parking made the location better for guests with their own transport.

Travelers wanting a current pool hotel should search farther along Pratumnak, South Pattaya or Jomtien and compare live, refundable inventory. The closest replacement is not necessarily the best one: verify recent reviews, renovation dates and whether the pool is included in the room category. A slightly higher nightly rate at a confirmed-open property is cheaper than resolving a failed arrival.

Verdict: wait for reopening evidence

The former proposition was genuinely appealing: generous rooms, a large pool and a quiet South Pattaya lane at budget-hotel prices. It could again suit independent travelers willing to trade beachfront walkability for space.

For now, the only responsible booking advice is to wait. A live date picker, an old score and attractive pool photographs do not outweigh a present closure flag. Reconsider the property only after Google shows it open, the operator confirms your dates and recent guests describe the rooms and pool. Until those three signals align, choose a hotel that can answer the door.
