The live band before Walking Street proper

Bamboo Bar stands at the South Pattaya entrance to Walking Street, close enough to hear before many visitors realise they have reached it. The room is open-sided rather than sealed behind a nightclub door, with tables facing a band stage and space for dancing. Its formula has survived years of nightlife churn: Thai musicians play familiar Thai and English covers while a mixed crowd drinks, watches and gradually moves toward the floor.

The location is easily confused because Pattaya has several unrelated bars using the Bamboo name. This page covers the established live-music venue on South Pattaya Road at the Walking Street entrance, not the smaller beer bars recorded in central Pattaya or Naklua. The current Google profile supplies the same phone number as the live-music directory, +66 38 421 361.

Google reviewers rate the venue 3.9/5 across 651 reviews (July 2026). Restaurant Guru carries a somewhat smaller mirrored sample under the name Bamboo Entertainment, while Tripadvisor preserves a long attraction review trail. Recent descriptions still agree on the essentials: energetic covers, a social and older-skewing crowd, easy drink ordering early in the night and much more chaos after 23:00.

When the band and the room come alive

CheersPattaya lists the venue from 20:00 until late, and Restaurant Guru currently publishes 20:00–02:00 daily. Google, however, showed the business opening from 15:00 during the July check. The sensible interpretation is that the room may trade earlier than the main live-music programme. If the band is the reason for going, arrive after 20:00 or call first rather than spending an afternoon facing an empty stage.

The best compromise is roughly 20:30–22:00. Tables are easier, orders are simpler to track and the band has begun building the room. By 23:00, both Tripadvisor and recent directory reviews describe a packed, louder atmosphere with less orderly service. That later period gives the strongest people-watching and dance-floor energy, but it is a poor choice for conversation or a careful first visit.

Music crosses cultures more than genres. Thai songs draw local participation and more elegant dancing; English selections lean toward pop, classic rock and hits from the 1970s onward. A recent local discussion specifically praises the mix of western and classic Thai tunes, contrasting it with venues that repeat only 1980s rock ballads. Another visitor describes energetic classic-rock covers. The exact set depends on the band and night, so do not arrive expecting one specialist style.

The crowd is an inseparable part of the experience. Couples, solo tourists, regulars, mature Thai women and visitors meeting new people share the same open room. Some reviews come mainly for the music; others treat it as a social or pickup venue. Anyone uncomfortable with that adult context should choose a restaurant band or earlier family entertainment. Photography of strangers is intrusive even in an open-front venue.

Dress is casual. Shorts and a T-shirt fit the room, although footwear suitable for a crowded dance floor is smarter than loose beach sandals. There is no published reservation system or bottle-service requirement. Walk in, look at the band and choose a table if one is free. Restaurant Guru currently says booking is unavailable and marks the venue not wheelchair accessible.

Drinks, payment and avoidable arguments

No dependable current drink menu is public. Restaurant Guru places many visits around ฿200–400 per person, while a July 2025 Tripadvisor complaint quotes ฿110 for a bottle of orange soda. Those figures establish only that soft drinks and a few ordinary rounds can remain moderate by Walking Street standards. Beer, spirits, premium pours and rounds for companions will produce different totals.

No separate cover charge is published. Older visitors describe entering, ordering a soft drink and staying for the music, and the standard pattern is pay-as-you-drink. Confirm at the entrance if a special event changes the rule. Starting with cash in smaller notes makes every transaction easier to follow.

Payment handling is the clearest practical weakness in the review record. One 2023 visitor says a waiter took ฿1,000, failed to return with the drink or change and could not be resolved through other staff. A 2025 group complains that a replacement orange soda was charged at full price after the first bottle was accidentally broken. These are individual accounts, but both point toward the same discipline: do not let cash or an unpaid tab disappear into a crowded room.

Keep the plastic token, receipt or change marker until the transaction is complete. Count change immediately. Pay each round rather than building a large verbal tab, and ask for a manager at once if the numbers do not match. Avoid arguing with floor staff after heavy drinking; a clear, early correction has a better chance of success.

Other stages when the song list is wrong

The Stones House is the Walking Street alternative for a more Thai- and Isaan-leaning live programme later into the night. Rolling Live 3 offers another cover-band room with a different crowd and position. Triangle Jomtien moves the same basic live-band idea away from Walking Street for visitors staying south of the city centre.

The choice is less about which band is objectively best than which evening you want. Bamboo wins on easy entry, open-air people-watching and a repertoire that crosses Thai and western favourites. Stones House suits a stronger local-music focus. A conventional pub band is better for seated conversation, and a full nightclub is better for electronic music and production.

Walking is the simplest arrival from central Beach Road; taxis and baht buses can drop near the entrance but cannot drive the pedestrianised strip after closure to traffic. Agree on a meeting point outside if a group splits up. The open frontage makes leaving easy, which is useful when the room grows too crowded.

Go for the band, stay only while the tab is clear

This is a strong first Walking Street stop for visitors who want live musicians rather than a DJ, especially when Thai classics and familiar English songs both appeal. Arrive after the band starts but before 23:00, take a table with a clear stage view and pay each round carefully. The 3.9 rating fits the reality: the music and social atmosphere can be excellent, while crowding and payment complaints prevent a carefree recommendation. Enjoy the set, dance if the room moves you, and leave before service friction overtakes the reason you came.
