The vibe

The TQ is Pattaya nightlife’s living museum: the city’s first go-go bar, pouring since 1978 behind an unassuming Beach Road frontage between Sois 12 and 13. Rock ‘n roll on the speakers, regulars at the rail, and a wall of history behind the bar. It survived a much-publicised COVID-era closure in 2021 and is back to marking anniversaries — the 48th lands in August 2026.

Good to know

This is an adult-oriented venue with four decades of history rather than a modern club — go for the atmosphere, the afternoon happy hour and the stories, not for polish.

Full overview

The Tahitian Queen — universally 'TQ' — is Pattaya's oldest bar, open on Beach Road since 1978 and a living piece of the city's nightlife history. It began as Pattaya's first go-go bar in the R&R era and still runs a classic-rock soundtrack behind a deliberately nondescript shopfront between Sois 12 and 13. The Pattaya Mail reported its closure after 42 years during the COVID collapse in early 2021, but TQ reopened and trades today under long-standing ownership, with its 48th anniversary party scheduled for August 2026. What sets it apart from everything around it: it opens at 1pm (a rarity for this kind of bar), the music is rock 'n roll rather than EDM, and the crowd skews toward long-time regulars, expats and returning visitors who treat it as a reunion point — the Pattaya Hash House Harriers and assorted golf societies among them. The annual calendar of in-house events (anniversary bash in mid-August, Cowboy Night in June, Halloween, a famously snow-filled Christmas) is half the institution's charm. It is an adult-oriented venue, so it isn't for everyone, but as a piece of Pattaya heritage it has no rival. Happy-hour pricing in the afternoon keeps drinks reasonable.

Record highlights

  • Pattaya's oldest bar (est. 1978) with genuine history and character
  • Opens at 1pm with long happy hours — a relaxed daytime option
  • Classic rock soundtrack and a loyal regular crowd rather than tourist churn

Check before relying

  • An adult-oriented go-go bar — not a venue for everyone
  • Nostalgia is the main draw; the room itself is small and dated

Frequently asked questions

Is the Tahitian Queen still open?

Yes. TQ closed in early 2021 during the COVID tourism collapse — widely reported as the end after 42 years — but it reopened and trades today, with daily hours from 1pm and its 48th anniversary party announced for August 2026.

What are Tahitian Queen's opening hours?

Daily from 1pm to around 3am, with happy hours 1–5pm and 8–10pm. It is one of the few bars of its kind in Pattaya open through the afternoon. Hours change — confirm before visiting.

Where exactly is the Tahitian Queen?

On Pattaya Beach Road between Soi 12 and Soi 13, facing the beach in Central Pattaya. The exterior is deliberately low-key — look for the TQ sign.

What kind of bar is the Tahitian Queen?

It is Pattaya's original go-go bar, running since 1978 with a rock 'n roll soundtrack and a regulars-and-expats crowd. It is an adults-only nightlife venue, better known these days for its history, events and atmosphere than for glitz.
