Makro (South Pattaya) is the giant blue-and-yellow wholesale warehouse on Sukhumvit Road that restaurants, bar owners and self-catering expats treat as their bulk-buying headquarters. Part of Siam Makro — Thailand's dominant cash-and-carry chain, now under CP Axtra — it's a members' warehouse club in the Costco mould, but in practice tourists and long-stayers shop here freely; you may simply be asked for a Makro card at the till, and membership is easy and cheap to arrange. The draw is scale and price: catering-size packs of rice, cooking oil, snacks and drinks, a serious fresh section with a butchery and whole fish on ice, frozen goods, an in-store bakery, and a surprisingly good run of imported products — Australian beef, cheeses and Western groceries that expats rave about — usually cheaper per unit than Big C or Tops. Beyond food, the non-food aisles stock kitchen equipment, small appliances, cookware, cleaning supplies, office bits and more, which is why anyone kitting out a condo or a small business ends up here. It's clean, well-organised, wide-aisled and has plenty of free parking. The trade-offs are obvious: pack sizes suit families, share-houses and businesses more than a solo traveller, and it's a functional warehouse rather than a fun day out. Hours run from early morning (around 6am) to roughly 10–11pm daily — worth confirming, as closing times vary by day. It rates about 4.4 on Google across thousands of reviews.
