The best Pattaya boat trip is not automatically the one with the most activities. A traveller who wants one beach and lunch needs a different boat from a certified diver, a family with young children or a group hiring a whole vessel. Start by choosing the format, then compare the exact route, passenger count, safety equipment and weather policy.

1. Public Koh Larn ferry — best budget choice

The public ferry from Bali Hai Pier is the simplest independent island trip. The standard fare increased to ฿40 one way on 10 April 2026. Buy at the pier, confirm whether the boat lands at Na Baan or Tawaen, and photograph the displayed return board before leaving the mainland.

This is transport rather than a guided tour. Food, beach chairs, island songthaews and water activities are separate. That separation is an advantage when you want control over the day and a disadvantage when you prefer hotel pickup and an escort. A package of this kind is useful when the group wants several structured experiences without negotiating each one at the beach.

The headline list is not enough to book responsibly. Ask which activities are included in the base price, which require supplements, whether non-participants can stay on the boat or beach, and what insurance applies. Confirm the passenger count, pickup zone, island landing points and the language used for safety briefings.

Koh Sak is also identified by DASTA’s Thai community-tourism page as an area for fishing and both shallow and deeper diving around Koh Larn. That supports the route’s underwater focus, but visibility and access still depend on the day.

3. Private Koh Larn speedboat — best for groups

A private speedboat trades a fixed public fare for control. It can reduce crossing time and let a family or group choose a departure window, but “private” does not automatically mean every beach or activity is included. Agree the full price, maximum passengers, number of engines, landing point, waiting period and return time in writing.

Do not pay from a beachside verbal quote without knowing whether it covers one way or return. Ask what happens if the operator changes the beach because of waves, and whether the boat waits or comes back later. This is strongest for a group that can divide the charter cost and wants one clear beach plan. It is weaker for solo travellers who mainly need cheap transport.

The operator says its fleet can handle groups up to 200 across multiple boats and can provide food and drinks.

That breadth makes a charter suitable for reunions, company groups or travellers who care more about time on the water than a single resort beach. Ask which exact vessel will operate, its licensed capacity, shade and toilet arrangements, and whether food, tackle, masks and island fees are included. A general fleet claim is not a specification for the boat assigned to you.

For smaller groups, request a route that fits the available daylight instead of collecting island names. A slower vessel needs more margin for the return.

5. Guided scuba or snorkel day — best underwater focus

A real dive day should be chosen by supervision, equipment and site suitability, not by the number of extra activities. The waters around Koh Larn, Koh Sak and Koh Krok support snorkelling and diving trips, while Pattaya operators also use offshore sites and wrecks. Certified divers should state their certification, logged experience and last dive. Beginners need to know whether the product is a supervised introductory experience or a certification course. Safety checks before paying

Pattaya Tourist Police reiterated in July 2026 that boat passengers travelling to Koh Larn must wear life jackets throughout the journey. Check that every passenger has a wearable jacket before departure. Children need appropriately sized equipment; a pile of inaccessible jackets is not a substitute.

Weather outranks the itinerary. Another July report documented departures being temporarily halted during rough conditions and resuming only after authorities considered travel safe. Keep the boat day movable and never pressure a crew to leave because a package is prepaid.

Ask five questions before paying:

2. Which activities, meals, transfers and equipment are included?
3. Where will the boat land, and when is the final return?
