When the heat or the rain hits, Underwater World Pattaya is a reliably cool, easy win — a walk-through aquarium whose centrepiece is a long acrylic tunnel where sharks, rays and shoals of fish glide right over your head. It’s the only aquarium in the city, and while it won’t rival the giant ocean parks of Bangkok or Singapore, it does exactly what a family needs on a hot or wet afternoon.

What it is

The route leads you gradually from shallows to open ocean: rock pools and coastal species first, then reef tanks, then the big feature — a 105-metre clear acrylic tunnel that curves through the main tank, giving a near-180-degree view as reef sharks, stingrays, turtles and schooling fish pass all around and above you. Along the way there are touch pools where kids can meet starfish and other hardy creatures, plus themed zones and, at set times, feeding sessions and diver shows.

It’s compact and easily walked, which is part of the appeal — nobody’s exhausted by the end, and it slots neatly into a half-day around other stops.
