Pattaya for Indian Travellers

Pattaya is straightforward for Indian visitors once three decisions are separated: the rule under which the passport enters Thailand, the transfer from the actual Bangkok airport and the neighbourhood that fits the trip. Indian food is widely available, but transport, dietary requirements and payment choices still deserve planning rather than assumptions.

The visa section below is deliberately dated. Thailand has approved a shorter exemption for Indian passports, but the latest official implementation update used for this guide said the new measure was still pending Royal Gazette publication.

Entry rules for Indian passports

The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi states that Indian ordinary-passport holders may enter under the tourist visa-exemption scheme for up to 60 days until further announcement. That is the current published embassy position checked on 26 July 2026.

Thailand’s Cabinet has also approved a revised structure under which India would receive a 30-day exemption. The Thai Government update of 19 July 2026 said five Ministry of Interior announcements were awaiting publication in the Royal Gazette and would take effect 15 days after publication. It explicitly said current entry conditions remained in force until the new measure became effective.

Entry remains an immigration decision. Carry the return or onward itinerary, accommodation details and access to funds appropriate for the trip. A July Thai Government reminder says proof-of-funds requirements already existed and that published amounts can vary by entry category or source. Check the figure applying to your exact route instead of relying on one universal amount.

Complete the free TDAC

The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is separate from the visa or visa exemption. Use the official Immigration Bureau system and follow its arrival-window instructions. The official FAQ explains that the form is free, and that every traveller submits individual details even when a group submission is used.

Flying to Bangkok, then transferring

Build the journey from the arrival airport code, not simply “Bangkok”. Suvarnabhumi is BKK and Don Mueang is DMK. They have different transfer options and are on different sides of the metropolitan area.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes Pattaya as roughly 150 kilometres southeast of Bangkok, around two hours by road in ordinary guidance. Traffic, terminal exit time and the final Pattaya address can extend the door-to-door journey.

From Suvarnabhumi, Airports of Thailand lists route 389 towards Jomtien from the Level 1 transport area at Gate 8. Its online transport modules do not always present one consistent operating window, so confirm the live departure after landing rather than building a tight connection around an old timetable.

If the flight lands at Don Mueang, do not travel across Bangkok merely to find the Suvarnabhumi bus without comparing the total time and cost. A direct road transfer may be simpler. The best method depends on party size, luggage and landing hour.

Pick a neighbourhood by trip style

Pattaya’s districts feel different after dark and require different daily journeys.

Large family groups should confirm room occupancy, extra-bed charges, connecting-room availability and breakfast policy in writing. Do not assume a child stays or eats free based on a search result.

Indian, vegetarian and Jain dining

For vegetarian food, ask about fish sauce, shrimp paste, stock and shared frying oil when ordering outside an Indian vegetarian kitchen. A picture or English vegetable label does not reveal every ingredient.

For Jain requirements, describe the actual restrictions rather than using only one word. Confirm onion, garlic, root vegetables, preparation surfaces and shared oil. A restaurant may be willing to adapt a dish without operating a separate kitchen, so each diner must decide what level of separation is acceptable.

Family activities

Pattaya is not limited to the late-night centre. The Tourism Authority highlights beaches, gardens, cultural attractions, shopping, museums and water parks. Koh Larn, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden and other day activities can work for mixed-age groups when heat, walking and transfer time are planned.

Do not schedule every outdoor stop in the middle of the day. Carry water, sun protection and a rain plan. Confirm child-height, age and health restrictions directly with water parks or activity operators before paying.

Money and payment

Bring more than one way to pay. Larger hotels, malls and established restaurants commonly accept cards, while local transport, small shops and markets may need cash. Foreign-card costs depend on the Thai machine, the Indian issuer and the card’s exchange terms, so check both sides before departure.

When a terminal or cash machine offers to convert the amount into rupees, compare carefully. Paying in Thai baht generally lets the card network and issuer handle conversion instead of accepting the terminal’s displayed conversion. This does not remove issuer fees.

Connectivity and practical comfort
