Pattaya for Golfers: A Three-Day Golf Break

Pattaya works well as a golf base because several established courses sit around the Chonburi countryside while the city supplies the hotels, restaurants and recovery options. The mistake is treating those courses as if they were city-centre venues. Transfers, early check-in, equipment, heat and separate caddie and cart charges all need a place in the schedule.

This plan uses two rounds in three days. Day 1 absorbs the arrival and lets you fix any booking or equipment problem. Day 2 carries the premium round. Day 3 uses a second course selected for budget, playing style and onward travel. It is enough golf to justify the trip without turning the break into continuous transit.

Before you book

Ask every course or golf agent for one written total showing:

• green fee and any visitor or weekend supplement
• caddie fee
• cart fee and whether the cart is compulsory
• caddie tip guidance, clearly separate from the caddie fee
• return transfer from your exact hotel
• club, shoe or umbrella hire if required
• cancellation and rain-check terms

An attractive “green fee” is not the whole playing cost. Siam Country Club Plantation, for example, published a July 2026 visitor green fee of THB 5,700 on weekdays and THB 6,700 on weekends and public holidays. Its published rates also list a THB 1,000 mandatory cart, one cart per golfer, plus a THB 500 caddie fee before the separate tip. This is a premium-course example, not a Pattaya-wide average.

Phoenix Gold published a lower visitor green fee of THB 3,000 on weekdays and THB 3,500 at weekends, with separate THB 400 caddie and THB 700 cart charges. Rates and promotions change, so use these figures to understand the cost structure, then reconfirm the total for your date.

Where to stay

Central Pattaya is practical for restaurant choice and a first visit. Jomtien can suit golfers who want quieter evenings and expect to play south-of-city courses such as Phoenix Gold. A north or east Pattaya hotel may shorten one course transfer but add friction to dinner and nightlife.

The ideal hotel is not necessarily the one closest to a course. Pick a location that makes the non-golf half of the break pleasant, then include door-to-door transfers in the golf booking. Moving hotels to save 15 minutes on one morning usually creates more work than it removes.

Store clubs with the hotel only after confirming the storage arrangement. Keep valuables, rangefinder and travel documents with you. If hiring clubs, obtain written confirmation of handedness, general flex and availability rather than assuming the pro shop will have the preferred set at an early tee time.

Day 1: arrive, settle in and warm up

Morning

Transfer from Bangkok or the airport and let the arrival breathe. Road times vary, and an international flight followed by a rushed tee time is an expensive way to discover a baggage delay. Check in, inspect clubs and confirm the next two pickups with hotel reception.

Afternoon

Use a range, simulator or short practice session. The aim is to loosen up, not post a score. Buy anything missing while Pattaya’s shops are open, charge devices and organise small Thai-baht notes for course expenses.

If you arrive fresh and early, a relaxed nine holes can work, but it should be optional. Do not build a non-refundable first round around a flight landing the same day.

Evening

Eat early, hydrate and prepare sunscreen, hat, glove, insect repellent and a light rain layer. Put the course name and driver contact in the group chat. A calm first night is more valuable than adding a long entertainment circuit before the premium round.

Day 2: the premium round

Option A: Siam Country Club Plantation

Siam Country Club is the straightforward premium anchor. The Plantation course website estimates a 20–25 minute journey from Pattaya, but use that only as a favourable planning reference. Hotel pickup, traffic and check-in require additional margin.

The course has significant elevation changes and a polished club operation. The mandatory one-person cart arrangement makes the day easy to price once each component is confirmed. Choose it when the group values a recognised championship setting and accepts the premium total.

Option B: Laem Chabang

Laem Chabang International Country Club is another strong first-round candidate, with a Jack Nicklaus-designed 27-hole layout. Its official site publishes seasonal stay-and-play offers, which can make sense if golf is the sole purpose of the trip. Compare a package against your city hotel plus transport rather than assuming either structure is cheaper.

After the round

Eat at the clubhouse before the return journey if the group is hungry. Rehydrate before alcohol, shower, then keep the afternoon open for pool, spa or a nap. A massage can be welcome, but tell the therapist about any injury and avoid aggressive work immediately after a painful strain.

Plan dinner near the hotel. The itinerary is intentionally quiet here: the next round is more enjoyable when nobody has to negotiate a late cross-city return.

Day 3: the flexible second course

Phoenix Gold

Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club at Huay Yai is useful for groups staying around Jomtien or travelling south afterwards. Its current published fee structure provides a more moderate comparison with Siam Plantation. Confirm whether a cart is part of the chosen rate and whether a promotion changes the standard cancellation conditions.

Burapha

Burapha Golf and Resort has 36 holes in the Si Racha area north of Pattaya. The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Japanese office describes it as about 40 minutes from central Pattaya. It can fit well before a northbound journey towards Bangkok, subject to the actual traffic and pickup plan.

Choose the second course for logistics as well as prestige. A slightly earlier finish on the correct side of the city can be more valuable than another marquee name before a flight.

Heat, rain and playing rhythm

An early tee time reduces exposure to the strongest midday heat, but it also means breakfast and pickup may fall before normal hotel service. Request a breakfast box the previous evening. Carry water and use electrolytes appropriately; do not wait for thirst to become severe.

Rain does not always end a round, while lightning can. Follow course staff immediately and understand the rain-check policy before play. Never pressure a caddie to continue when the course suspends activity.

Thai golf normally involves a caddie, and good communication improves the round. Introduce yourself, explain whether you want detailed reads or a lighter touch, and treat the caddie as a professional partner. The caddie fee paid to the course is not necessarily the tip, so ask the club or organiser for current etiquette and bring cash.

Departure planning

Do not schedule the final putt and airport check-in back to back. A round can start late, take longer than expected, pause for weather and still require a shower, payment and meal. Add the full road journey plus the airline’s required check-in margin.

If the timing looks tight, make Day 3 the recovery day and move the second round to Day 1 only when everyone is already in Pattaya. The best three-day golf break ends with two complete rounds, not an abandoned back nine and a sprint to the airport.
