What Ancient City is

Ancient City is a large outdoor park with copies of historic temples, palaces and old towns, some full size and some reduced. It was created by Lek Viriyaphant, the businessman behind Pattaya's Sanctuary of Truth and the Erawan Museum, which makes it a natural second stop for anyone who liked the Sanctuary.

The grounds are wide and mostly in the sun: go early, and take water and a hat.

A day from Pattaya

Ancient City is in Samut Prakan, on the Sukhumvit Road side of Bangkok, so it fits a day trip by car or a stop on the way to or from Bangkok. The Erawan Museum, from the same founder, is also in Samut Prakan, and the two fit one long day. For the road and the rest of Bangkok, see the Bangkok day trip and getting from Bangkok by bus, train or car.

Who it suits

It suits travellers with an interest in Thai architecture who cannot reach the old capitals, and families who like a long walk or ride between sights. It suits you less with only a short stay in Pattaya: the temples and culture close to the city take less travel.
