What the temple is
DASTA describes the temple as an old temple by the sea, founded in 1899 by Luang Pho Ie, a famous teacher. Visitors come to attach gold leaf to his statue and to worship.
The temple is known for its holy amulets, especially small phallic charms, which traders believe help them sell and prosper. Their meaning is religious and traditional; treat them with the same respect as any other offering.
Visiting
Sattahip is south of Pattaya along the coast. The temple is a day-trip stop rather than a city visit: go by car and combine it with the coast south of the city, see beaches near Pattaya.
Dress and behave as at any working temple: covered shoulders and knees, shoes off before you enter a hall, and quiet during prayers. See Thai etiquette.
Who it suits
It suits visitors with a car heading south along the coast, and anyone interested in Thai amulet traditions. For temples nearer the city, compare temples and culture.
