Tien Beach

Tien Beach is a small beach on Koh Larn’s west coast, positioned as a calmer alternative to the island’s main arrival areas. DASTA’s official community-tourism page describes it as suitable for a more private rest, while Thailand Tourism Directory documents the practical detail that matters most: visitors park on the approach side and walk across a pedestrian bridge.

That final access makes Tien a good match for lightly equipped day visitors and a weaker match for heavy luggage, pushchairs or uncertain mobility. The setting may be calm; the journey is not door-to-sand.

Sand, water and swimming

Chon Buri’s official Koh Larn page describes white sand, clear water and conditions suitable for swimming and snorkelling around the island. Tien’s west-coast position and smaller scale make it attractive to visitors who want fewer arrival movements than Tawaen.

None of that guarantees safe water on a specific day. The UK FCDO warns about strong currents, rough seas in the monsoon period and jellyfish, particularly from May to October. Use the marked area, obey red flags and keep away from boat or activity lanes. If the boundary between swimmers and machines is unclear, do not enter.

The inherited page presented exact measurements, crowd ratios and a reliable sandy-bottom claim without an official source. Those details have been removed. The useful judgement can be made on arrival: inspect the water, the flag, the bridge route and the number of boats before paying for anything.

Chairs, food and other services

Tien has visitor services, but the sources checked do not publish a dependable price list for chairs, showers, food or snorkel hire. Do not plan the budget around an old online quote. Ask what a chair or umbrella costs, whether ordering food is expected and whether toilets or rinsing carry a separate fee.

Carry cash, water, sunscreen and a dry bag. Keep enough supplies to leave comfortably if the preferred operator is closed, while avoiding the burden of dragging a large bag across the entrance. Visitors who need several restaurant choices or a cash machine close at hand should settle at Tawaen.

Getting there

Start at Bali Hai Pier and use a public boat to Koh Larn. Pattaya Mail reported that the fare increased to ฿40 per person each way on 10 April 2026. That fare covers the crossing, not transport across the island.

After landing, arrange an island ride to the Tien entrance. Thailand Tourism Directory describes parking for motorcycles followed by a pedestrian bridge to the beach. It does not publish a current shared-ride fare, so agree the price and whether it covers one seat or a private journey before moving.

The public crossing is described by DASTA as about 45 minutes. Sailing times and landing sides need a live check. Photograph the return board at the pier used, then work backwards to allow time for the island ride and bridge walk. The Koh Larn guide provides orientation, but the posted board wins.

Tien or Tawaen

Choose Tien when a smaller west-coast beach and a bit of walking are acceptable. It suits couples, confident walkers and visitors who value a calmer setting over immediate access to the island’s broadest service choice.

Choose Tawaen Beach when the easiest possible pier access, more fallback businesses or reduced walking matters. The right answer is practical, not a beauty contest. A traveller with limited mobility may enjoy Tawaen more simply because getting there consumes less of the day.

For an even smaller beach beside Tawaen, Tong Lang avoids the full west-coast transfer but has its own variable facilities. Samae Beach is another west-side alternative when the island circuit is running smoothly.

A plan that keeps the day flexible

Take a morning public boat, note the return options and travel to Tien before committing to a chair. Cross the bridge, inspect the sea and ask current service prices. Stay if the conditions and setup fit; leave enough time to try another beach when they do not.

Skip Tien on a rough-sea warning, when the bridge approach is unsuitable for someone in the group, or when a fixed connection on the mainland leaves no margin. Its appeal is a calmer beach day, not a reason to race the final boat.
