Tong Lang Beach

Tong Lang Beach is a small Koh Larn alternative beside Tawaen, useful for travellers who want less space devoted to the island’s main arrival scene without making a full cross-island journey. It is not an empty cove with no activity: DASTA’s official community-tourism page lists diving, sea-walker and glass-bottom-boat options here.

That distinction corrects two inherited extremes. Tong Lang can feel quieter than Tawaen, as a resort operating on the beach describes it, but it is neither guaranteed solitude nor a watersports-free sanctuary. Look at the actual shoreline before choosing where to swim.

Sand, water and the honest swimming decision

The beach sits next to Tawaen and has a smaller physical footprint. The first-party Enn Kai resort page describes white sand, clear water and room for swimming and water activities. Those are operator descriptions, not a daily safety report.

Swim only inside the area that is visibly separated from boats and equipment. If an activity is launching, move away rather than assuming the operator has seen every swimmer. UK travel advice says Thailand uses a beach-flag system and warns about strong currents, rough monsoon seas and jellyfish, particularly from May to October.

There is no calendar promise. A dry-season morning can still have traffic or wind, while a rainy-season morning can look calm and change later. Red means do not enter; an unflagged or unattended patch is not automatic approval.

Facilities: bring the essentials

The safe assumption is that Tong Lang has fewer fallback choices than Tawaen. A resort is established on the beach and official tourism material lists activities, but that does not verify a fixed public-chair price, a particular menu or daily opening. The previous version of this page quoted an unsourced chair range and described only one simple kitchen; those claims have been removed.

Carry water, cash, sunscreen and any medicine needed for the day. Ask the price before accepting a chair, meal, shower or activity, and confirm whether a quoted boat price is per person or for the whole craft. Anyone who requires predictable step-free access, several restaurant choices or a nearby cash machine should use Tawaen instead.

Getting there from Pattaya

Public boats leave Bali Hai Pier for Koh Larn. Pattaya Mail reported that the public fare rose to ฿40 per person each way from 10 April 2026, replacing the old ฿30 figure. DASTA describes the public crossing as about 45 minutes.

Choose a sailing that lands on the Tawaen side when its live board suits the plan, or land at Na Baan and arrange island transport. Tong Lang adjoins Tawaen, and the resort describes it as close to Tawaen pier. Follow the signed connection rather than improvising over rocks, and ask locally if mobility or luggage makes the final approach uncertain.

When Tong Lang is the right choice

Choose Tong Lang for a light, flexible beach visit: a swim if conditions permit, a quiet read and perhaps a locally operating activity. It works well for someone who reaches Tawaen, finds its main section too busy and wants a nearby alternative.

Skip it when the day depends on a guaranteed lounger, several kitchens, extensive shade or a smooth pickup at an exact time. Tien Beach offers a different quiet-beach compromise with a documented footbridge entrance, while Tawaen Beach remains the easier choice for the widest services.

A sensible two-beach plan

Arrive on the Tawaen side, inspect the sea and walk or ride towards Tong Lang before committing money to a chair or activity. If the setup is open and the swimming zone is clear, stay. If services are shut or boats occupy the water, return to Tawaen without sacrificing the entire morning.

That is the advantage of Tong Lang: proximity gives the day an exit. It suits travellers who value a smaller setting and can carry what they need. It does not suit anyone who interprets quiet as a promise that nothing commercial or motorised will be present.
