Nual Beach

Nual Beach is a quieter, rockier Koh Larn option for visitors willing to trade convenience for a smaller setting. Thailand Tourism Directory makes the key distinction plainly: it describes Nual as peaceful but notes many rocks and a risk of cuts for people entering the sea.

That warning should lead the plan. Come prepared to enjoy the shore even if swimming is unsuitable, and keep enough time and cash to move elsewhere. Nual is not a sensible choice when a smooth sandy entry, guaranteed lunch or a direct walk from the ferry is essential.

The shore and the swimming decision

Chon Buri’s provincial tourism page describes Koh Larn generally as having white sand, clear water, snorkelling and watersports. Nual needs a more specific filter: its official directory entry warns about rocks. A favourable island-wide description does not cancel a beach-level hazard.

Inspect the entry rather than following another swimmer blindly. Avoid gaps where rock, coral rubble or moving water makes footing uncertain. Water shoes can help against minor contact but will not prevent a fall, cut or current-related problem. Anyone with poor balance or an open wound should choose an easier beach.

UK travel advice says Thailand operates a beach-flag system and warns about strong currents, rough monsoon seas and jellyfish, especially from May to October. A red flag ends the swim. If no lifeguard or flag is visible, use caution rather than treating silence as approval.

Do not build the day around monkeys

Many visitor pages call Nual “Monkey Beach”, but none of the official sources checked for this revision promises a resident troop or a reliable sighting. Wildlife moves, and its absence is not a failed visit.

If macaques or other animals appear, watch from a distance. Keep food sealed, do not touch or feed them and never position yourself between an adult and its young. UK guidance notes legal controls around protected wildlife; responsible behaviour is also the easiest way to avoid bites, scratches and stolen belongings.

The previous version treated monkeys as guaranteed entertainment and described them as thieves. This update replaces that performance language with a simple wildlife rule: observe, leave space and do not create a food reward.

Facilities and what to carry

No reliable current tariff was found for Nual’s chairs, umbrellas, meals, showers or toilets. The inherited ฿50–100 range and claim about a fixed number of kitchens have been removed. Ask the full price before using anything and confirm whether cash is required.

Carry drinking water, sun protection, a small first-aid kit and enough food for the intended stay. Keep the load light because both island transport and the final approach can be less predictable than at Tawaen. Take rubbish away if no managed bin is available.

Nual suits a traveller who can leave without disappointment when a service is shut. Anyone who needs several restaurants, an ATM or a broad service fallback should use Tawaen Beach instead.

Ferry, island ride and return

Start from Bali Hai Pier. Pattaya Mail reported that the scheduled public ferry became ฿40 per person each way on 10 April 2026. That fare covers the mainland crossing only.

After landing, arrange an island ride to Nual. Ask whether the quote is per passenger or for a private vehicle, where the driver will leave you and how a return pickup works. The previous page’s fixed ฿60 songthaew claim had no current official tariff behind it.

Do not rent a scooter simply because the beach is away from the pier. The FCDO highlights Thailand’s high motorcycle accident rate, licence rules and insurance limitations. Travellers without the correct licence, insurance and experience should use local transport.

Photograph the live sailing board and allow a wide margin for the ride back to the correct pier. DASTA’s online Koh Larn timetable is useful historical context but still shows the old ฿30 fare, so it is not reliable enough for the final boat.

Who should choose Nual

Choose Nual for a flexible quiet-beach visit where sitting, reading and observing the shore are worthwhile even without a swim. Skip it when easy water entry or predictable services define a successful day.

Samae Beach offers a longer west-side setting, Tien Beach has a documented pedestrian bridge, and Tawaen offers the simplest service fallback. Nual’s value is its smaller scale, provided its rocks and logistics are treated as real constraints.
